Overview

Senior Vice Presidents are members of the agency’s “senior staff” ranks and have responsibility for autonomously leading a sizeable portion of the agency’s fee business ($1.5-2MMannually) and a dedicated team of staffers (3-8).  The role of the SVP and his/her/their responsibilities fall across three main areas:

  • Creative/strategic development and enthusiastic, dedicated and profitable management/tracking of client’s strategic integrated communications plans that include PR/media relations, social, digital, creative and influencer offerings.
  • Actively leading and offering supportive development of direct reports and adjacent team members within the agency.
  • Seeking incremental opportunities that expand agency’s relationship with existing and new clients.
    • Includes new business prospecting, from identifying opportunities, to leading new business pitches and presentations (at least 1-3 pitches per year).

 

SVPs report to a member of the ELT, BLT or ELT and are expected to demonstrate and uphold the company’s reputation, mission of Earning Attention (consumers), Building Trust (clients) and Cultivating Loyalty (employees) while expressing the company’s values in all aspects of their ethical, enthusiastic and dedicated service to clients and the staff they supervise.

Responsibilities

  1. CLIENT/ACCOUNT OR SPECIALTY MANAGEMENT
  • Sustain and grow current account/client assignments and seek to turn projects into ongoing budgets and/or renew client budgets annually.
    • Autonomously supervise $1.5-$2MM annually in fee revenue or generate a commensurate amount of fee/opportunity in terms of a VP in agency specialty practices.
    • Lead the development of integrated client programs by proposing strategic, creative ideas and tactical elements that meet client objectives; seek inputs from team members and counsel from MD/SLT/BLT leadership as necessary.
  • Cultivate trusted relationships with clients based on demonstration of strong counsel, communications expertise, account management/coordination, team leadership and the ability to drive the business results that benefit client’s business.
  • Demonstrate a proactive and strong understanding of the clients’ marketplace/business/industry to build trust and agency’s reputation in the space.
  • Actively seek and sell-in incremental and integrated opportunities from across the agency’s specialty services and geographies and drive opportunities for staff members to learn and grow from other staff members within the agency.
  • Help set yearly client budgets/stretch goals in conjunction with BLT/SLT/ELT leaders.
  • Anticipate client issues; recognize potential fiscal challenges and take action early to correct, report and remedy any potential loss in a timely and transparent manner.
  • Recognize and uphold the terms and conditions of client MSA, scopes, policies and procedures and enforce these guidelines while servicing clients and leading the teams to successful outcomes.
  • Serve as lead budget tracker/manager across all account assignments. Ensure accurate time recording, expense management, contracts and negotiation with vendors/partners by:
    • Leading agency revenue recognition process
    • Alert ELT-BLT-SLT supervisor to material changes in budgets in a timely and accurate manner
    • Submitting all expense reports, invoices, time sheets, etc. accurately and on time
  • Lead by example and play a visible, active and involved role as the senior leader of the account team and the senior ranks of the agency. Attend events, travel to client meetings, lead social outings, attend brainstorms and encourage participation in agency culture events.

 

  1. TALENT LEADERSHIP
  • Build, lead and develop engaged, loyal and successful integrated account teams.
    • Lead and mentor team members to develop work that matters that reflects contemporary and forward-thinking practices, involves new technologies or expands the limits of the client’s expectations/business objectives
    • Implement strategies and practice methods that reduce turnover and build loyalty
    • Cultivate an environment where diversity and inclusion are invited and celebrated
  • Manage overall team billability and drive staff utilization to ensure efficient use of all team members’ time and related OOP expenses.
  • Actively work with SLT teams to build integrated budgets that are fair and equitable and allow for fees to be allocated appropriately among the integrated team ranks.
  • Manage the annual performance review process, setting goals, providing constructive feedback and identifying growth opportunities for all direct reports, and extended team members, when appropriate.
  • Monitor and identify issues within teams and seek HR’s assistance in finding opportunities and swift and constructive resolutions.
    • Ensure that staff members are following/upholding agency protocols/policies outlined in agency employee handbook and ongoing HR updates.
  • Offer talent support to account teams, committees and other opportunities within the agency and work collaboratively with leaders to encourage staff growth in new areas.

 

 

  1. AGENCY FEE GROWTH
  • Lead new business proposal development and presentations (at least 1-2 pitches per year).
    • Review, analyze and interpret the RFP; assemble the team for the project; brainstorm strategic concepts; compile the presentation with support from idea generation, marketing, insights/analytics efforts, and other SLT areas to compile the presentation; lead the pitch meeting with prospective clients, etc. Work with marketing and BLT leaders to transition client into agency, negotiate fees/services, develop MSA and scopes.
    • Actively participate in agency brainstorms and pitches that are led by other leaders.
  • Maintain a strong network of professional contacts.
    • Utilize past experiences/expertise to explore opportunities that can help grow the agency into new practice areas
    • Actively participate in professional organizations/networks to develop new professional contacts

Qualifications

  • Ten (10) to twelve (12) years of experience in an integrated marketing agency or similar position; four (4) or more years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in developing and executing integrated programming across earned & digital
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
